The world of central heating with biomass is evolving quickly.  Part of the change comes from the technology that has been developed to make these systems ever more clean and efficient.  Change is also happening on the convenience front.  Because of the relative consistency in size, moisture content, and energy content, pellets are well suited to automatic feeding, similar to the way that today’s oil, propane and natural gas boilers and furnaces operate.  100 years ago, wood heating was a necessity.  Now wood heating, in the form of wood pellets, has brought convenience and efficiency to wood heating to a level which it never had before.
